Black Birds, White Birds

"The book BIRDS is the culmination of several years of my journey into an abstract and experimental world of photography. In both the book NOT SEEN and BIRDS, the real photos served me only as raw material for the creation of new pictorial worlds. The elaborate and fantastic screen prints by Lorenz Bögli perfectly accentuate the abstract, reduced images.


Birds are an ideal motif for abstract, graphic images. Probably because birds are not visually lost in the chaos of the world, like all the other inhabitants of the earth, but because - detached from everything - they stand out perfectly as abstract graphics against a wide sky and over smooth water surfaces. Birds do not quite belong to this world.

When I watch birds fly, I can never help thinking: Birds know what they are doing."

The book was printed in an exclusive screen printing process by Lorenz Bögli and bound as a flat book.

Mit seinem neuesten Buch „NOT SEEN“ hat er sich auf eine neue, experimentelle Reise gemacht, in eine unbekannt-bekannte Bilderwelt. Eine Welt, die, zwar ausgehend von realen Fotografien, sich völlig löst vom fotografischen Bild, von der gesehenen Realität. Stand am Anfang die Lust am Experimentieren und Neues auszuprobieren, so entwickelten sich diese ersten Versuche zu einem langjährigen Prozess, der letztlich zum Gesamtwerk Not SEEN führte.
